We Are Wavefront: Meet Eddie Lui

We Are Wavefront is an ongoing series where we take a look at the people who make up Wavefront. This week we sat down with Eddie Lui, our Senior Product Manager in the Vancouver office.

Tell me about yourself…

I graduated in Electronics and Electrical Engineering in the UK. I migrated to Canada in 1992 with the help of MacDonald Dettwiler (MDA) where I worked as a software development team lead in their Satellite and Aviation divisions. At MDA, I was involved in designing and developing software for satellite ground stations and Aeronautical Information Systems. After that, I worked at various startup companies including StarSolutions, Rx Networks, Dali Wireless and Istuary Deep Vision as a software development and project manager. Through these experiences I acquired the business, wireless and AI domain knowledge before joining the Wavefront family.

What keeps you busy outside of work? What’s one fun fact about you?

I like to run, swim, socialize with friends and family…. One FUN FACT: I like to do adventurous things! When I was in Disneyland with my family, my daughter coerced me into riding the Tower of Terror and California Screamin’ roller coaster numerous times. ?

What interested you about working at Wavefront? How would you describe your role here?

Based on my research and speaking with a former Wavefront employees, I was initially intrigued by Wavefront’s abilities to solve unique and challenging technology problems using methods like Design Thinking and connections like the Trusted Partner Network.

I am a Senior Product Manager at Wavefront. Since I joined a few months ago, I’ve already had the opportunity to work on a number of interesting projects and wear other hats like Solution Architect and Agile Project Manager. I find it rewarding to collaborate with internal teams, partners and clients to come up with innovative solutions for difficult problems.

What makes you enjoy your days, here at Wavefront

My Wavefront colleagues are professional and fun to work with!  The very first thing I do after I wake up every morning is look at our SLACK channels. I like seeing not only good conversations happening around tech, but conversations that bring the Toronto team and Vancouver together. It’s nice to hear from the Toronto team on a daily basis.  The GIFs we send back and forth are hilarious!

Anything that excites you about the future of tech?

Yes, Artificial Intelligence (AI). We have already experienced AI machine learning and its applications like email spam filters and facial recognition/validation at customs boarder control in our everyday life. I believe AI is still in its infancy and will grow at a very fast pace in the next few years due to many industrial and government initiatives like smart cities, self-driving, smart farming, and AI in healthcare.
