“Smart City Challenges & Opportunities” is a report that explores digital innovations being adopted by cities in Canada and around the world. Created with support from the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP), the report is available online. It includes:
- Learning from Smart City deployments
- Dealing with the “Cascading technology trap”
- Recommendations for municipalities developing Smart City strategies
An accompanying online resource, the Wavefront Smart Cities Showcase showcases more than 25 Canadian companies providing IoT solutions including smart grids, building management, governance and big data analytics.
Wavefront is connecting Canadian companies with Smart Cities opportunities globally by leading a trade mission to the Smart Cities Week Conference in Washington, DC, October 2-6. Six export-ready companies have been selected to take part in meetings with industry leaders, prospective customers and partners in Washington.
Wavefront acts as an innovation intermediary, connecting government and enterprise with Canadian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and startups. In the past year, Wavefront has hosted Smart Cities workshops and conference panel discussions, bringing together city officials and digital solutions providers from across the country.
“The adoption of digital solutions by municipalities is one of the most exciting areas of the Internet of Things in Canada,” says James Maynard, President and CEO of Wavefront. “The potential of technology is being tapped to make city ecosystems more affordable and productive, while improving quality of life.”
