Wavefront is the Canadian Centre of Excellence for wireless innovation. We support the acceleration of growth and productivity of businesses through the creation and adoption of technologies. But we are more than that. We are a team of passionate, dedicated individuals, who together, make up Wavefront.
We want you to get to know the people behind the scenes of our organization. Let’s start by introducing you to Malcolm Archer, Business Development Manager for Wavefront.
Q: Tell me a bit about yourself…
MA: I am a Montreal native and the eldest son of 3 brothers. I love to travel. I’ve lived in Germany and Vancouver, but I always come back to Montreal; it’s my home.
I’m very active – I play soccer and football competitively and I love snowboarding! I also coach children’s soccer which is a great way to give back to the community.
Q: Why did you want to work for Wavefront?
MA: I attended the Wavefront Summit in 2015 and I was blown away by the endless possibilities for IoT in Canada. There were so many amazing speakers at the Summit and I decided I wanted to surround myself with these highly intelligent people and immerse myself in the world of IoT. I ended up meeting the Regional Director of Sales, Anthony Thomas, and we hit it off. The rest is history!
Q: What do you do for Wavefront?
MA: I am the Business Development Manager on the Enterprise Solutions side. We take the technologies and expertise we’ve grown up through the Accelerator side and we introduce it to the Enterprise side. Our goal is to help with the creation and adoption of Canadian wireless technology to help increase productivity in the Enterprise world.
A third of my time is also spent working as the main point of contact in Eastern Canada for our Accelerator. I maintain and grow our partnerships, promote our programming and generally have an evangelistic role for Wavefront.
Q: Why did you decide to go into the Tech Industry?
MA: I grew up in a heavy techy family. My father did POS systems for restaurants and bars, so at a very young age I had a computer. I began experimenting with coding and online interfaces, and it got me interested in the technical side. I love social interactions and as I got older I realized I had an affinity for sales, so I’ve combined the two!
Q: How is what Wavefront is doing meaningful to you?
MA: I truly believe that the programs and incredible resources we’re able to offer to the Canadian wireless ecosystem are making a difference. Seeing the number of people who have been able to use our programs and services, as well as our connections to our Trusted Partner Network to propel their business is inspiring. I’ve come across so many people who have had such positive experiences working with Wavefront and that’s really important to me.
Q: How is what Wavefront is doing meaningful to Canada?
MA: The whole Incubator/Accelerator business model was not something I was familiar with before Wavefront. Our Global Market Entry Program not only helps build Canadian companies but helps build Canadian ties with companies internationally. We’re such a small population size compared to the major players in the IoT space and I feel like Wavefront is truly making a difference in expanding Canada’s global presence. As a proud Canadian, that’s something I would like to see more of.
Q: From your perspective, what is the importance of IoT in Canada?
MA: The IoT advancements I believe we’re going to see over the next five years will be drastic and game changing. There will be massive jumps within Canada, whether it’s to do with medical, social, smart cities, connected devices or data analytics, the new capabilities that are possible are endless.
Q: What do you look forward to for the future of IoT?
MA: I’m a property owner, so I can’t wait for connected home advancements. Monitoring and money saving aspects will be huge. As soon as they have solar panels that will survive Montreal’s -40 degree weather, I’m definitely going to have those up on my house!
On a larger scale, I look forward to the medical field advancements in the health industry. These advancements will make doctors’ jobs easier and will contribute heavily to saving lives. For me that’s revolutionary.
People are what make up an organization, and at Wavefront we truly believe in our people. In the coming months we will continue to feature Wavefront employees so you can get to know us a little better. It’s always nice to put a face to the name, or better yet, a personality to the name! #WeAreWavefront.
